Marla Morris While the Streetlights Shine EP Review

Marla Morris is an independent country artist who I happened to find because she was featured on iTunes a while back. She's just released an excellent EP featuring co-writes from One Arm Train (frequent collaborators of Megan & Liz) Her EP has blues-ish influences, as well as country, of course, and I really can't understand why she's not signed yet.

Track-by-track review
  1. Sky On Fire - I enjoyed this song, but didn't find anything particularly spectacular about it. Certainly worth the buy, but not extraordinary. 8/10
  2. While the Streetlights Shine - Certainly an eye-catching title, especially since it was the title of the EP. It's about that situation where you don't know where a relationship is going, which most everyone has experienced. It helps, too, that it's very well-written. 10/10
  3. Nothing Left to Leave - A usual country breakup song, but with especially nice lyrics such as "you gave me the world but you didn't keep it turning" and "the fireworks sure lit up the night/til you let them burn out across the sky". The bridge is a bit lacking, but overall it's a solid song. 9/10
  4. One December Ago - Very, very reminiscent of Taylor Swift's Back to December, although I'm not sure if that was intentional or not. A solid track again, but too familiar. 8/10
  5. So Close - One of the two co-writes with One Arm Train, and a great track. It's sung very emotionally — it's clear the words come from the heart. There are nice lyrics too, such as "you got to me like the radio love song/always out of reach, but yeah I believed". 9/10
  6. Home is Always You - The other song written with One Arm Train, and one of the two best on the album. It's a nice song about someone being home to you even if you're always travelling around. 10/10
