Is it bad that I just don't see why everyone loves Adele's music so much? Maybe because I'm generally oblivious to what a "good voice" is and a lot of her songs depress me, and not in the good way? Sorry, I said it.
That being said, there are definitely some good songs on the album. Love in the Dark, When We Were Young and All I Ask are all similar to her typical style but with especially good lyrics, and Send My Love (To Your New Lover) and Water Under the Bridge are both pleasing deviations from it. One of them should definitely be a single eventually. 7/10
It's evident from the beginning that this album's a concept album about a dysfunctional relationship. It's definitely not for everyone, and gets really tedious after a while, but has some gems such as Anybody Out There, Hurt and What Did You Do on the standard edition and The House We Never Built and You Don't Like Dancing on the deluxe edition. Taken individually, most of the songs are well done, but overall the album is overwhelmingly the same. 8/10
Jana Kramer's sophomore album is definitely better than her debut, but there's still lots of room for improvement. I agree with Queens of Country that there are too many bro-country type songs on the album — there are already plenty on the radio and we don't need more. Plus, her voice doesn't really work on them. Her voice also doesn't work very well on Boomerang, a song originally written by Maddie & Tae of Girl in a Country Song fame, making the song come across much too strong with the production and instrumentation. I Got The Boy, Dance in the Rain and Just Like In the Movies are beautiful, however, and Said No One is notable purely because of how catchy and witty it is. The quality might not be that great, but it's a fun track. 6/10
Carrie Underwood's latest album has a lot of good tracks, but in a lot of ways it's more of her same kinds of songs (Dirty Laundry, Church Bells and Choctaw County Affair are similar to songs of hers such as Two Black Cadillacs and Before He Cheats.) The two best ballads on the album are The Girl You Think I Am and What I Never Knew I Always Wanted, both some of my favorite tracks on the record. 8/10
