Against the Current Gravity EP Review

Against the Current is one of those rare Youtube acts that gets millions of views on their videos pretty fast, probably thanks to how they've toured with and been featured in videos with Alex Goot. They don't post videos very often compared to other artists, but when they do, they're excellent. They've recently released their latest EP, which has a alternative rock feel.

Track-by-track review
  1. Gravity - This was the lead single from their EP, and also the title track, where Chrissy reflects on a past relationship, similar to their other songs such as Another You (Another Way). It's non-annoying, which is very important for a single. 9/10
  2. Talk - Basically the ultimate anti Valentine's Day song. It's ridiculously catchy, and was the second single from the EP. The rhymes seem to come effortlessly, instead of being predictable. It also helps that they didn't seem to feel the need to make perfect rhymes every time. 10/10
  3. Dreaming Alone (feat. Taka) - The vocals on this track are absolutely pristine and smooth, and it's pretty effortless to listen to. On some other tracks (their cover of All Too Well, for example) Chrissy's voice isn't a great match for the song. There are some great lyrics, and the song flows well. 10/10
  4. Paralyzed - Chrissy's voice sounds completely different on this track, which hints that there's at least a bit of autotune on the EP. I don't like this track as much, but it's okay. 7/10
  5. Fireproof - This song plays with the metaphor of fire as love, which is used a lot, but there are some clever lyrics that keep the song from being too non-unique, such as "you were born to run but your poison tongue won't save you/cause when you play with fire it all dissolves to smoke", and the concept is really cool. 10/10
  6. Brighter - Another track with different vocals, which gets confusing. It's a nice closing track, continuing the theme of burning/fire. There's some really nice instrumentals in the background, too. 9/10
